Typical food and delicatessen in Romagna are a way to keep memory and to go back to the local tradition and to rediscover the old culture of its people. The ability to create new dishes is the oldest form of oral culture, and in Romagna the popular tradition and its developments have always gone hand in hand with the development of typical traditional dishes.


Typical dishes

Romagna is a region where taste has always been important, so as the habit of stayig together at table. Emilia Romagna can therefore boast of a good cuisine and of a renouned hospitality.

In Romagna you can taste a range of delicious kinds of noodles: "cappelletti" ( round noodles made with egg pastry ) filled with cheese, "strozzapreti" (noodles made with water and flour) with meat sauce, "tortelli" (square noodles made with egg pastry) filled with spinach, "tagliatelle" (long noodles made with egg pastry) romagnola, "maltagliati" (= "badly cut": irregular noodles made with egg pastry) with beans. And also soups are irresistable: passatelli (noodles for soup made with flour, egg and Parmigiano), tagliolini (narrow tagliatelle) and manfrigoli. Also meat recipes are very rich: grilled t-bone stakes, roast and stewed meat always with a good glass wine. The typical dishes for the coast mainly have fish: fish soup, risotto with fish, sardins, cuttle-fish with peas. A large variety of cheese kinds can be eaten with the typical bread: piadina, which is always present on the tables in Romagna..here palatable food is the first rule to feel good!!

The wines from our land

The Romans, and before them the Etruscans, knew very well and appreciated much the wines from this region: Plinio talks about Sangiovese as a high quality wine, centuries later Leonardo da Vinci is very surprised by the care and attenion that farmers in Romagna use when they hang grapes for the winter season, Leonardo even makes a draw depicting this habit. Nowadays the five typical wine sorts for Romagna (Albana, Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Pagadebit, Cagnina) are known and appreciated at national and inetrnational level.
