Cesenatico beach
A seaside town where you can make new friends, listen to music and practise sports.
The coastline of Cesenatico extends for 7 kilometres and includes the beaches of Zadina, Ponente, Levante, Valverde and Villamarina. The beach is between 100 and 200 metres wide, with fine flat golden sands. The temperature is already mild in May and remains pleasant through September. The sea-bed is soft, without holes or currents and is gently sloped, making the area especially suited to children and "beginners". The bathing area, in which no boats are allowed, extends 500 metres out from the beach, making swimming even safer. Safety and water standards are monitored by a special "sentinel" - the boat Daphne II, a floating scientific laboratory that checks the state of health of the sea every day.
The history of these beaches is a long one. Among people's dreams, a nice holiday by the sea has always played an important part. The popularity of Cesenatico first began to grow in the late 19th century when the first bathing establishments were opened. For many years, the beaches attracted Hungarians and Czechs, but things really "took off" after the Second World War. In the 60s, Italian and German holidaymakers discovered the attractions of the area and Cesenatico made every effort to cater for them, increasing its accommodation facilities until it now boasts 354 hotels. Together with over 1500 guest houses, these hotels are able to accommodate over 350 thousand people during the course of the year, totalling around 3,200,000 overnight stays/year.
One of the major features of the Adriatic Riviera is the way the beaches are organised, creating along the coast a single large holiday village, the ideal place for meeting people, making new friends, listening to music, having fun and practising sport. Large areas are dedicated to swimming, windsurf and water-ski-ing schools and to Sailing Clubs. Areas are also set aside for playing boules, beach-volleyball, basketball and children's games. Lots of activities in what is a totally safe environment thanks to the excellent life-guard service organised by the Bathing-Attendants' Cooperative which monitors the entire beach from the 27 watch towers and which has a motorboat constantly on hand in case of any emergency. Unchallenged king of the beach in fact is the life-guard, who keeps a careful eye on guests from the traditional "high-chairs" on the beach and typical red "mosconi" boats..
